Roots of Puntland began with a member of the Puntland diaspora who wanted to help restore the environment and bring communities together through tree planting. What started as one person's vision has grown into a community-led movement supported by volunteers, local leaders, schools, masjid, and supporters around the world.
What began as a conversation among friends became a mission: to plant trees across Puntland — in villages, schools, masjids, and family homes — and to give people around the world a meaningful way to contribute.
We are not a large NGO. We are a community. Every tree we plant is the result of real people — in Puntland and abroad — coming together around a shared belief that the land can be restored, and that every act of planting is an act of hope.
"We plant not just for today, but for the children who will sit in the shade of these trees decades from now."

Trees planted across Puntland
The first 150 trees were planted in Qandala, marking the beginning of the journey and proving that community-led tree planting in Puntland was possible.
The project officially became Roots of Puntland, with a clear vision to restore Puntland's environment through community partnerships, Sadaqah Jariyah, and sustainable tree planting.
More districts, schools, masjids, youth volunteers, and supporters joined the movement, expanding the project across Puntland.
Volunteers, district representatives, community members, and an environmental expert came together to review progress, share lessons learned, and plan the future.
The launch of the official Roots of Puntland website connected supporters around the world with our mission, projects, and vision for a greener Puntland.
Every decision we make is guided by the communities of Puntland. We work alongside local elders, youth, and religious leaders — not above them.
Our work is inspired by the Islamic principle of Sadaqah Jariyah — ongoing charity. We believe that planting a tree is one of the most powerful acts of worship.
Puntland faces real environmental challenges. We are committed to long-term, sustainable solutions that restore land and protect biodiversity.
We bridge the gap between the Puntland diaspora and their homeland — giving people around the world a meaningful way to contribute to the place they love.
Trees take years to grow. So does lasting change. We are committed to the long game — planting, nurturing, and protecting trees for generations to come.
We provide updates, certificates, and honest reporting to every donor. Your trust is the foundation everything else is built on.
We believe planting a tree is only the beginning. Protecting, watering, monitoring, and caring for every tree is what creates a lasting impact for future generations.
Roots of Puntland is made possible by the generosity and dedication of many — from diaspora donors to local volunteers, from school teachers to masjid imams. Together, we are one community with one mission.
